Saw a demo of an AI sorting recycling bins at the city dump last Tuesday

The thing could spot a milk carton mixed in with aluminum cans in like half a second, way faster than any human worker I've seen. Has anyone tested one of these sorting bots on their own waste stream yet?

My buddy at the transfer station said their Litan sort bot could pull a greasy pizza box out of mixed paper (you know, the stuff they can't recycle anyway) in under two seconds flat. We ran a test on my home bin last month and it flagged a plastic clamshell that had gotten shoved into cardboard, which was kind of impressive honestly. If you call your local MRF and ask nicely they might let you bring a bag by for a demo, just check their hours first so you don't show up at the wrong time.

My buddy runs one of those Litan sorters at our local MRF and I used to think it was just overpriced hype. Then I watched it catch a half-crushed soup can that had somehow ended up in the glass pile during a tour last month. Changed my mind pretty quick, your mileage may vary on the price tag though.
