Warning: AI writing tool nearly got me in trouble with a client

A buddy of mine who runs a marketing firm told me to use ChatGPT to draft emails for my moving company. I figured it would save time so I tried it for a proposal to a commercial client in Nashville. The AI wrote something so formal and stiff it sounded nothing like me, and the client asked if I had outsourced my business. Now I only use AI to brainstorm ideas, never for client facing stuff. Has anyone else had a tool make you sound like a robot?

Yeah that "outsourced" comment hits close to home. Draft then rewrite in your own voice.

Three weeks into my trial of the AI writing tools and honestly I'm starting to wonder if people are overthinking this whole thing... sure it helps with a rough draft but the amount of fuss over "voice" and "authenticity" seems like a lot of energy for something that's mostly just a shortcut. I see people getting all worked up about it like it's a moral issue or something and I just don't get it. It's a tool same as spell check or a thesaurus, not some deep betrayal of your soul. Maybe if you're writing a novel or a super personal blog post it matters more but for basic emails and reports nobody really cares that much.
