Watson image classifier tagged my 80 year old grandma as a 'military vehicle' and I spent 3 hours fixing it
I was prepping a batch of old family scans for a photo tagging tool last Tuesday and the model kept labeling her porch chair as a tank. Something in the vision pipeline was choking on the shadow angles, so I rebuilt the confidence threshold and added a quick check on grayscale images before anything else runs. Two hours of test runs later and the false flags dropped from 34 to under 4. Has anyone else hit weird mislabels like this when feeding old photos into a model?
Shadow angles will get you every time lol. Had a batch of scanned wedding pics where the model called a lace tablecloth a "chain link fence" and my uncle's bald head got tagged as a "basketball." Old scans are just rough on these models. Your grayscale check idea is smart though, might steal that.
