A 19-year-old climber made me question my whole pruning style
Had a talk with this younger guy on a storm cleanup in Dayton last month. He kept talking about leaving more collar wood and letting the tree seal things its own way. I've been cutting tight to the branch for 30 years, that's how my old boss taught me. He showed me a few cuts from a maple we did together and honestly, the callusing looked smoother than mine. It got me thinking if my habits are just dated or if there's a middle ground. Anyone else have a younger worker shift how they approach a basic cut?

Wait, did you check those cuts again after a full season?
