A homeowner told me my stump grinding looked like a bad haircut

I was finishing a job in Springfield, grinding down an old oak stump. The client came out, looked at the uneven mulch ring I'd left, and said, 'Son, that looks like my dog chewed it. You need to feather the edges.' I'd always just ground it flat and called it good. The next day, I spent an extra 20 minutes on the next stump, tapering the grind out into the lawn. It looked ten times better. Has anyone else gotten a piece of weirdly specific advice from a client that actually improved your work?

But why waste the extra time if the stump's gone? I mean, it's just gonna get covered up anyway, right?

Had a guy tell me to wet my saw blade before cutting his composite decking... said it kept the plastic from melting and gumming up the teeth. Sounded nuts, but it worked like a charm. Now I keep a spray bottle on the truck for that exact job.
