Chipped a $1,400 stump grinder blade on a hidden rock in Boise, now I always probe first

Was grinding a big cottonwood stump behind a house in Boise last spring. Ground looked clean, grass was short, no sign of anything. Got about 6 inches down and hit a buried boulder that was maybe 3 feet across. Bent the teeth and cracked the housing. That repair bill hurt. Now I take a steel rod and poke around the base before I even fire up the grinder. Takes maybe 10 minutes and saves a headache. Also started asking homeowners if they've had any landscaping work done, since that's how rocks end up buried. Anyone else run into hidden debris that cost them more than the job was worth?
