Crane mat failure changed my whole setup

Was on a job in downtown Portland last year. Rotted oak limb came down on a fresh 4x8 mat and cracked it clean through. Anyone else stopped using standard mats under heavy limbs after a close call like that?

Man, that brings back a memory. Old oak limb took out my garage roof right where I stored my extra mats. Nothing like hearing that crack at 3 AM.

Oh man, my buddy had a whole pine tree drop on his truck cab while he was sleeping!

Sixteen years ago a big maple came down on our shed, completely flattened it. What worked was calling a local guy with a portable sawmill. He took the whole tree, cut it into boards, and even gave us a discount on the lumber.
