Finally got a stubborn pin oak to thrive after two seasons

It was dropping leaves early every fall and barely grew. I did a deep root fertilization with a slow-release mix in early spring, and this year it's put on almost 18 inches of new growth and held its color. What's your go-to method for a stressed tree that just won't bounce back?

How deep did you go with the fertilizer probe? I've had mixed results with that method.

Actually hated it until I tried the deep root method.

That's a huge win after two tough seasons. You must be pumped to see that new growth. @rubyshah makes a good point about the deep root method, it really can turn things around when surface stuff isn't working. For a truly stubborn tree, I'll sometimes combine that with a good layer of mulch to keep the roots from getting too dry. It's all about getting the food and water right down where the tree needs it most, isn't it?
