I keep seeing people in my town cut oak trees in the summer and it's a bad idea

I mean, maybe it's just me but I've watched three different crews in the last month doing major pruning on live oaks right now. It opens them up to oak wilt, which is a huge problem here in central Texas. I learned from an old timer that the safe window is basically late fall through winter, not June. Has anyone else had to explain this to clients lately?

Oh man, that's like watching someone mow their lawn in a rainstorm. Sure, you can do it, but why would you want to? I guess some folks just see a tree and think any time is a good time for a chainsaw. It's wild that the crews themselves don't know better, or maybe they just don't care. You'd think with oak wilt being such a known issue, people would be more careful. Saving a few bucks now could cost them a whole tree later.

Saving a few bucks now" is exactly why I used to hire them, until I lost a tree and learned the hard way.

My buddy had a gorgeous oak get butchered last summer and it was dead by spring (the arborist said it was almost certainly oak wilt).
