I wasted $300 on a cheap climbing rope and almost paid for it with my neck

Bought a no-name rope off Amazon last spring for my removals in Portland, figured it was just as good as the big brands. First big limb walk on a 60-foot red oak and the sheath started slipping bad, had to bail with a prusik. Anyone else learned the hard way that cutting corners on safety gear is a stupid gamble?

Man you got lucky walking away from that. Sheath slippage is one of those things that tells you everything about quality control on no-name gear. Next time grab a rope from a company that's been making them for a while and has actual inspection records.

Mine did the exact same thing on a canyon trip last summer, scary as hell.
