My climbing rope got chewed by a squirrel 40 feet up a red oak
I was doing a deadwood prune on a big red oak behind a house in Asheville last Thursday when I looked down and saw a squirrel going to town on my climbing line where I'd left it draped over a stub. By the time I yelled and shook the branch, that little guy had gnawed through about a third of the sheath right near my tie-in point. I had to bail out and descend on my lanyard, which took forever and made me look like a total rookie in front of the homeowner. Bought a rope bag the next day. Has anyone else had wildlife mess with their gear mid-climb, or am I just unlucky?
