My old foreman told me to stop flushing every cut with a chainsaw, and it took 3 months to admit he was right

I used to hit every back cut with a full throttle rev to clear chips, thought that was just how you did it. Then a foreman on a job in Flagstaff watched me drop a 60 foot ponderosa and flat out told me I was cooking my bar and wasting fuel. I pushed back hard at first because it felt wrong to go slower near the hinge. He had me run two tanks on the same saw with his method and I got almost 20 more minutes of cutting per tank, plus my bar stopped getting that blue tint. Now I feather the throttle through the cut and only rev when I'm actually clearing a pinch. Anyone else get told something like this and fight it way longer than you should have?
