Rant: A squirrel in Portland threw a half-eaten pinecone at my head while I was doing a crown reduction last Thursday.

It nailed me right on the hardhat, then chattered at me from the branch for a solid five minutes like I was the one trespassing, and honestly, has anyone else had a tree rodent declare full-on war during a job?

Totally get it. Saw a crow dive bomb a mail carrier last week for just walking down the sidewalk. Feels like the natural world is done with our polite ignoring act and is moving into active resistance. Your pinecone was a warning shot. They're not just being pests anymore, they're enforcing territory with an attitude we usually only see from other people. Makes you wonder what the squirrels are saying about us on their little rodent forums.

Maybe we're just noticing it more because we're all stressed out. That crow probably had a nest nearby, same as every other year. Animals act like animals, it doesn't mean they're forming unions.

Exactly, @the_nathan. The squirrels are definitely organizing, and I'm pretty sure the crows are running air support for them now.
