Rigging guy told me my knots were too slow, changed my whole setup

I always used a running bowline for lowering branches. Fast and reliable. But last month I worked a job with a climber named Hank outside Richmond. He watched me tie off on a big limb and said why not just use a cow hitch with a half hitch backup? Told me it saves 10 seconds per tie and holds just as good. I tried it on the next 3 jobs. Total night and day. My ground crew said I moved way faster. Has anyone else switched knot styles after getting called out by a coworker?

Right, "total night and day" is exactly how it felt when I made a similar switch with my old climbing gear. It's funny how getting called out like that shakes you up. But I noticed this pattern in a lot of things, not just knots. Like how I used to load the dishwasher with plates facing all different ways until my wife showed me a trick that saved like 10 minutes of hand washing. Nobody wants to hear they're doing it slow, but nine times out of ten, the other person has just been in the game longer and found a shortcut. The ego hit is worth it for the time you get back.

Jumping off what @king.robin said about the dishwasher thing, I've found the SAME pattern with how I pack for trips. Used to just shove everything in a duffel bag and waste time digging for stuff. Then a buddy showed me how to roll clothes and use packing cubes. Felt dumb at first but now I can pack for a week in like 10 minutes flat. The old way was basically just wasting my own time.

That's a great way to put it, the ego hit is absolutely worth it in the long run.
