Spent $180 on a fancy pruning saw and it snapped on the third cut

Bought this high-end silky saw online after reading all the hype. First two cuts on a maple branch were smooth, then it just snapped near the handle on a limb maybe 4 inches thick. My old $30 hardware store saw never broke, just got dull. Anyone else had luck with a specific brand that actually holds up to real work?

Wait, wasn't there a big thread on r/arborists a few months ago warning about a bad batch of Silky handles? @carr.lee might be onto something, I feel like I saw Corona mentioned a lot in the comments there too. Probably a QC thing slipping through on the high end stuff lately.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen with a Silky a couple years back. Switched to a Corona and it's been solid ever since, cuts through stuff like butter.

Silky's gone downhill lately. Try a Corona - mine's taken years of abuse without breaking.
