That day last spring when a black walnut dropped a limb on my truck during a routine removal
I was doing a simple deadwood prune on a big black walnut in a backyard off Maple Street. Nothing crazy, just removing some hangers. Client was inside, no wind, clear skies. Out of nowhere a 6 foot limb I hadn't even marked just snapped and landed right on the roof of my F-150. Bent the cab corner and cracked the back window. Insurance covered it but it took 3 months to get parts. Has anyone else had a tree just decide to take a swing at your rig during a calm job?

Man I used to think it was overkill to move the truck way out of the way for a simple prune lol. That black walnut branch hit my hood last fall and now I park two blocks over no matter what the job is.

Wait, was it really a routine deadwood prune if you had an F-150 parked right under the tree? I mean I get it, sometimes there's no avoiding it, especially in tight backyards. But that limb probably had a defect you couldn't see from the ground, maybe a crack or rot hidden inside the bark. I've seen black walnuts do that too, they'll drop a branch that looks solid but has a hidden hollow spot. Next time I'd keep my truck on the street if possible, or at least in a spot where nothing bigger than a wrist can reach it. That 3 month parts wait sounds about right though, Ford couldn't get me a tailgate for my old truck in less than 5 months.
