Took me 8 hours to trim a single oak last Saturday
I kept trying to use my rope climbing technique on a tight lateral branch and it just kept binding up. Finally gave in and used a pole saw from the ground, finished the whole cut in 20 minutes. Anyone else stubborn about changing methods mid job?

You think 8 hours on one oak is stubborn? That sounds like you were just working with the wrong tool for the job.

@josephmartin what tool would you have used instead?

kinda reminds me of how people will spend all day fighting with a dull kitchen knife instead of just sharpening it for five minutes. we get so focused on the task we forget to step back and see if the tool is the problem.

Wait, so you're saying an 8 hour cut is normal with the right setup? I'm trying to picture what tool you'd even grab for a single oak that takes that long. Like are you talking a big bandmill or one of those swing blade setups? Because I've seen guys spend 4 hours on a big red oak with a decent mill and think that's just how it goes.
