Tried the throw line with a bag instead of a weight today
I've been using a steel throw weight for years on removals, but a buddy convinced me to swap to a bag for a big oak in Portland. The bag caught in the crotch way less and I only had to re-throw twice instead of like eight times. Anybody else made the switch and noticed a difference on tall conifers?

Yeah no kidding, I switched last year and it's night and day on those tall firs.

Funny how that works with so many things, once you find the right tool or approach it's like everything else just wasn't cutting it. Ever notice how we put up with mediocre stuff way longer than we should?

Yeah man, I switched to a bag maybe two years back on a big Doug fir up in the Tillamook area. That steel weight kept getting hung up in the whorls and I'd be up there forever cussing. The bag just slides through so much smoother, especially when it's wet out. I used to dread throwing on those 150-footers but now it's almost easy. Only thing is I had to adjust my aim a little cause the bag doesn't drop as fast as the steel. But once you get that down it's way less headache.
