Had to pick between a birdbath and a new feeder, went with the bath and now I'm second-guessing
I mean, I had a budget for one thing, so it was either a nice ceramic birdbath or a squirrel-proof feeder. I got the bath last Tuesday, thinking the robins and sparrows would love it. It's been a full week and I've seen maybe two birds use it, total. Meanwhile, the starlings are still hogging my old feeder and scattering seed everywhere. Should I have just gotten the better feeder first? Has anyone else had a birdbath that took forever to get any action?

Oh man, I read somewhere it can take birds weeks to trust a new bath.

My backyard blue jays took a solid month to even land on the rim. Put the bath near some bushes so they feel safe. A couple flat rocks in the water help too, gives them a shallow spot to start. Just gotta be patient and keep the water clean.

My neighbor's concrete bath sat empty for three weeks before the cardinals found it. Birds are weird about new stuff, especially water. Try moving it closer to a tree or fence so they have a quick escape route. That old feeder is a known spot, the bath is a new risk. Give it time, keep the water fresh, and toss a few seeds on the ground near it to draw them in.
