Heads up about that cheap birdseed mix from the grocery store

I just read a study from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that found some budget mixes are over 50% filler like milo and wheat, which a lot of common backyard birds just won't eat. I checked my own bag and sure enough, the ground under my feeder was covered in wasted junk. Has anyone found a good, affordable brand that doesn't have all that filler?

But those fillers feed ground feeders like doves and sparrows... it's not all waste.

Had the same issue with millet and corn taking over my yard. Switched to a no-waste mix last spring. The cleanup got way easier and I still see plenty of birds. They just eat everything now instead of kicking half of it to the ground.

I switched to Wagner's black oil sunflower seed and the waste disappeared.
