Hit 50 different bird species in my backyard this morning

I kept a list since January just for fun, never really aiming for anything. This morning I spotted a yellow-rumped warbler that I hadn't seen before, and when I added it to my notebook I realized I was at exactly 50 species. What got me was that I started with just the usual sparrows and cardinals, but after putting out a water bath and some native shrubs last fall, the variety jumped. Now I'm curious how many others have tracked their backyard list like this, what's your count?

The variety jumped" is exactly what happened to me. I started at 23 species three years ago and now I'm at 74 after adding a small pond and some berry bushes. The water feature really brought in the warblers and thrushes I never saw before. It's funny how such small changes in the yard can double your count without even trying. I think the native plants matter way more than feeders do long term.

Yeah, I used to think feeders were the key. This is making me rethink everything.

Ngl, 74 species blew my mind a bit. @eva_thompson you gotta see this guys comment because that's a crazy jump just from adding some water and bushes.
