I finally stopped chasing rare birds after a morning at Lake Merritt
I used to drive an hour every weekend to find some exotic warbler or whatnot. Last month at Lake Merritt in Oakland, I sat on a bench for 20 minutes and watched a group of coots and mallards just going about their day. That sounds boring, but one coot kept diving and coming up with this little piece of weed, real determined, did it like 8 times. Made me realize I was missing the regulars I see daily in my own yard. Anyone else find more joy just sitting and watching the common ones do their thing?

Same here. Those little daily routines are way more calming than the chase.
