My cheap bird feeder fell apart after one storm last Tuesday

I had this plastic feeder from the dollar store hanging in my backyard in Springfield for about 6 months and it was doing fine until that thunderstorm rolled through. The bottom tray just cracked right off and spilled all the black oil sunflower seeds onto the ground. The doves and sparrows cleaned it up quick but now I need something sturdier that can handle rain. Any recommendations on a mid-priced tube feeder that won't fall apart on me?

My neighbor in Springfield had the exact same problem after that storm last week. His dollar store feeder shattered into three pieces when the wind gust hit it. I switched to a tube feeder with metal ends from Home Depot about a year ago after my second cheap one cracked in a hailstorm. That thing has been through two winters and a few rough storms and still holds up fine. The plastic tubes themselves can get a little cloudy over time but the metal cap and base keep everything together. Honestly the extra ten bucks is worth it to not have to sweep up sunflower seeds off your deck every time the weather gets rough.

Actually I used to think cheap feeders were fine as long as you replaced them every season. But after my third plastic tube cracked in a windstorm last spring I finally got a metal mesh feeder from Duncraft. That thing has been hanging for two years now through rain and snow and still looks brand new. For tube feeders specifically I would look for the ones with a metal cap and base instead of all plastic, the extra few bucks makes a huge difference when storms roll through.

Gotta disagree though, Ive had cheap plastic tube feeders from Walmart last me years without cracking once. Maybe you just got unlucky with that storm or something.
