My old finch feeder finally gave out after 12 winters

Went out last Saturday to refill the nyjer seed and the whole thing just snapped off the hanger. Plastic got brittle from all that sun and cold I guess. Had to go buy a metal one at Tractor Supply for $18. Made me miss the old days when stuff lasted. Anyone else notice feeders don't last like they used to?

Twelve winters out of a finch feeder sounds like it did its job pretty well, if you ask me. Most things made of plastic that sit outside in the sun and freezing temperatures are going to get brittle eventually. $18 for a new metal one that should outlast your old one seems like a fair trade to me. Maybe we just remember the "old days" being better because we forget how many times we had to replace stuff back then too. Honest truth is, a lot of times things lasted because they were simpler and had less moving parts to break.

Stopped by a buddy's place last weekend and he was cussing up a storm because his plastic bird feeder shattered in the cold. Thing only made it through two winters. Guess you got lucky with twelve.
