My uncle told me to put a water dish near my feeder in the summer heat
He said the birds in his yard in Austin really needed it, and I finally tried it this July. I've seen more robins and sparrows than ever before, and they use it for drinking and bathing. Has anyone else noticed more activity with a simple water source?

Totally agree with your uncle! I started putting out a shallow bowl last summer and it made a huge difference. The birds seem to love it even more than the seed sometimes, especially on really hot days. I see way more cardinals and blue jays now just hanging out near the water. It's so simple but it really turns your yard into a spot they want to visit.

Right? The shallow bowl thing is such a game changer. I stuck a cheap plant saucer on a stump and it's like a bird spa now, they're always splashing around. I even saw a robin taking a full bath in it yesterday, it was hilarious.

That "bird spa" idea is pretty clever. Do you find you have to clean the bowl a lot more often once they start using it for baths? Mine gets gross with feathers and dirt pretty fast.
