Neighbor said to put out crushed eggshells for the birds

My neighbor Betty kept insisting I put crushed eggshells in my feeder for the cardinals. I thought she was just being weird about kitchen scraps. Turns out the birds actually do eat them for calcium in spring, and I've seen way more females around this month. Has anyone else had luck with weird feeder additions like this?

Used to think Betty was nuts but I toss my shells out now every morning.

Attracts rodents just as much as birds in my experience.

Wait doesn't that just prove how much we overthink EVERYTHING in life? We buy fancy supplements and special blends for our pets and ourselves, but the birds just need crushed up eggshells and some seeds. It's like how people spend a fortune on expensive protein powders when a simple egg sandwich works just as well. I've noticed the more complicated something seems the simpler the real answer actually is. Betty was right all along and now I feel dumb for questioning her.
