Pro tip: I put a cheap plastic owl on my shed roof to scare off the starlings that were hogging my feeder. It worked for about a week.

Those owls only work if you move them around every few days. Birds catch on quick.

My neighbor's owl has been in the same spot for a year, taylor12, and it still works.

So what do you do when the owl stops working? My uncle tried one and the pigeons just started sitting on it, like @blair_webb said they might not always notice. He ended up getting one of those spinning shiny things instead.
