PSA: Heard a neighbor talking about using glue traps for 'pest birds'

I was walking my dog this morning and overheard the guy two houses down telling someone he was putting out glue traps to stop sparrows from nesting under his deck. My heart just sank. Those things are awful and can hurt all kinds of small animals, not just the birds you're mad at. I didn't say anything then, but it's been bothering me all day. Has anyone had success with safe, kind ways to gently discourage nesting in spots like that?

Saw a wildlife rehab post last week about a squirrel that lost its tail to a glue trap. Brutal. My aunt used these plastic bird spikes under her eaves, worked like a charm and nothing gets hurt.

Those plastic spikes are way better than the cruel old methods.
