Scared off a nesting pair of bluebirds by accident
I had a pair of eastern bluebirds nesting in a box in my side yard for about a week. Then last Saturday I decided to mow the lawn right near it without thinking, and the female flew out screaming and didn't come back for almost two hours. I felt terrible, I sat on the porch for like 45 minutes waiting before she finally swooped back in. Has anyone else spooked a bird away and had them actually return?

Birds bounce back faster than you'd think. Had a chickadee bolt from my box when I slammed the door too hard, she was back on her eggs in like 20 minutes. Eastern bluebirds are pretty dedicated parents once they've settled in. Your mowing probably just gave her a good scare but she knew that box was a safe spot.

Ngl @rubysingh, I'm still stuck on you slamming a door hard enough to send a chickadee flying out. That's wild to me, I treat my box like it's made of glass.
