That one comment about my feeder placement changed everything
A birder in the local Facebook group told me my feeder was too close to the window, and I brushed it off until I found a junco with a broken wing last month. Moved it 8 feet further out and added some decals, and the crashes basically stopped. Anyone else dealt with window strikes after getting called out like that?

Three years ago I had the same thing happen with a goldfinch that hit my dining room window hard enough to leave a smear. My neighbor down the street who runs a little bird supply shop told me to move the feeder at least 10 feet away and put up those UV decals that just look like faint dots to us. I did exactly that and also hung a couple of old CDs on fishing line near the glass as a cheap backup. Since then I've only had maybe two thumps all season instead of every week. It's wild how something so simple fixes a problem you didn't even realize was that bad.

Man, my buddy tried the CD trick and ended up scaring his own cat stupid every afternoon.
