The weird change in my backyard after I stopped cleaning up leaves
I used to rake EVERY leaf in my small yard in Portland until last fall, and I had maybe 2 or 3 birds visit a week. Now that I've left the leaf piles alone for 6 months, I'm seeing juncos, towhees, and even a thrush scratching around almost daily. Has anyone else seen a big increase in ground-feeding birds after letting leaves sit?

Wait till you see the 30 robins fighting over the worm I dug up yesterday. I swear my lawn looks like a bird mosh pit now, and I'm just here watching with my morning coffee. Honestly grateful I don't have to bend over and bag leaves, and they're happy. Win win I guess.
