Tried leaving a half-eaten apple on the stump and a blue jay brought its whole family for 3 days straight

Honestly I just wanted to see if anything would touch it, but suddenly I had 8 jays squabbling over the same rotten fruit. Has anyone else had a random backyard snack turn into a daily bird circus?

Started putting out a handful of unsalted peanuts on a flat rock and within two days I had a pair of cardinals showing up every morning like clockwork. The trick was keeping the same spot and time, they really get used to a routine. Ended up buying a cheap feeder just to keep the mess contained, but it was totally worth it.
