Cheap plastic stuff is basically designed to break right after the warranty ends. My grandma's homemade blankets are still kicking after twenty years. They don't make things to last anymore, it's all about selling you the next one. That plastic junk probably cracked the first time someone looked at it funny.

Bet that plastic one broke just sitting in the box waiting to be used. Grandma's version is probably getting passed down to future generations while the store-bought one is already in a landfill. They really do build things with the structural integrity of a wet paper bag now. It's almost impressive how fast that stuff falls apart.
