My brisket probe snapped off inside the meat during a cook last Saturday

I was about 8 hours into a 14-pound packer on my offset. The probe from my old Maverick just broke clean off when I went to check the temp. It happened right at the stall, around 170 degrees. I had to finish the cook blind, going by feel and time, which was a real pain. Anyone have a good, sturdy probe brand they trust for the long haul?

Oh man, it's a huge deal! Losing your probe mid-cook throws off your whole rhythm and timing. You're basically flying blind for hours.

Was it really that big of a deal?

Yeah, that's the worst feeling, isn't it? I've had a probe snap on me before and finishing by guesswork is so stressful. I switched to Thermoworks probes a while back and they've been solid, the wires feel way tougher. You just can't beat that peace of mind when you're already hours into a cook.
