My smoker's temp gauge exploded mid-brisket last Saturday and I had to finish by feel like a caveman.

I was three hours into a 12-pound brisket when the glass on the dial just cracked and shot across the yard, so I spent the next five hours guessing the heat by holding my hand over the vent and checking the color of the smoke, has anyone else had a sudden equipment fail throw off their whole cook?

Oh man, that's rough. Had a similar thing happen with an old Weber kettle grill once - the handle just snapped off right as I was flipping burgers for a party. Ended up using a pair of pliers to open the lid for the rest of the cook. Not the same as a brisket but still threw the whole rhythm off.

Pliers for the win, man. Had to do the same with a broken oven door mid-thanksgiving turkey.

Oh man, pliers and Thanksgiving turkey sounds like a chaotic combo. I guess my cooking skills are so questionable even my tools need to bail me out.
