Warning: built a whole brisket workflow around a $30 thermometer from Amazon

It read 195 when the meat was actually 160 and I served shoe leather to 12 people at a neighborhood cookout last Sunday, has anyone dealt with that brand giving false readings?

Nothing like a $30 gamble to make you the star of the neighborhood's worst potluck story, right? Might as well have checked the temp with a finger and called it close enough.

Friend of mine showed up to a BBQ with chicken that was still pink in the middle. She insisted she'd checked it with a fork and it "felt done." Her Thermapen arrived the next day with a note from her husband that just said "please.

Been there. Getting a proper Thermapen was the best upgrade I made.
