Blew $340 on a used band saw that couldn't cut through a pork shoulder
Bought it off a guy in Fresno who swore it had 'barely been used' and it bogged down on the first bone-in cut, blade wandering like it was drunk. Three new blades later I'm still out $340 plus gas and I could've put that toward a real saw. Anyone got a brand that actually holds up on bone, or am I stuck going back to the hand saw?
Bone is just brutal on a band saw no matter what brand you buy, and a lot of guys don't figure that out until they've cooked a few blades like you did. The real issue is blade speed and feed pressure, not just the saw itself. Most wood-cutting band saws spin way too fast for bone, so it heats up, dulls, and wanders off line exactly like you described. You need to slow the speed way down if the saw has variable speed, and push the meat through real gentle so the blade can actually clear the chips. Fresno guy probably never cut a single bone with it, which is why it felt fine to him.
