Guy asked me to cut his ribeye into 12 equal pieces so his kids wouldn't fight
Had a dude walk into the shop on a slow Tuesday afternoon and ask me to take a nice 14 oz ribeye and slice it into 12 pieces, one for each family member at his kid's birthday party. I told him that's not really how steak works, and he just stared at me and said "they can each get a piece or nobody eats." I tried to talk him into a couple of chuck roasts or a pork butt he could shred, but he wasn't budging, so I cut the thing into 12 strips like I was making jerky. His wife called the shop two days later to apologize and order a proper brisket for the next party. Any of you ever get asked to do something to a nice cut that just felt wrong the whole time?
Did a friend of mine ever tell you about the time a guy asked her to butterfly a whole tenderloin into like twenty skinny cutlets for a church picnic? She said it felt like she was ruining a perfectly good piece of meat just to make sandwiches that nobody was even gonna remember. Some cuts just aren't meant to feed a crowd that way, and no amount of slicing is gonna fix that.
