Had a band saw blade snap during a big custom order for a restaurant in Boise

I was breaking down a whole ribeye for a 200-person event when the blade popped right as I started the cut. The sound was awful, and I had maybe 30 minutes before the client was set to pick up. I grabbed my backup Lenox blade, swapped it in under five minutes, and got back on track. Anyone have a good trick for keeping a spare blade ready to go without it getting dull?

Wow, that's a close call. I see this all the time, people skipping a simple backup to save a tiny bit of space or effort. Susan649 has a point about a good routine, but that doesn't cover sudden breaks. It's like not keeping a spare tire in your car because you check the air pressure. One fails, you're stuck. A spare blade, kept safe in its package, is just smart risk management. It saved your order.

Keeping a spare blade ready is just asking for trouble. They take up space and can get damaged just sitting around. Better to just have a good sharpening routine and trust your main blade.

Seriously? That's a huge gamble. What if you drop your main blade on a rock mid-hike and chip it bad? A spare tucked in your pack is cheap insurance. A sharpening stone won't fix a broken tip when you're ten miles from the trailhead. Space? It's a flat piece of metal, it takes up no room.
