Heard a guy at the hardware store call a pork shoulder a 'boston butt' and it threw me for a loop
I was grabbing some new gloves and this older guy was telling his friend he was going to smoke a 'boston butt' for the weekend. I mean, I've been cutting meat for eight years and I've always just called it a pork shoulder. Had to look it up later, and turns out it's the same cut, just a different name from a different part of the shoulder. Idk, maybe it's just me but I never heard that term used outside of a shop. It's funny how the same piece of meat can have two totally different names depending on who you ask. Anyone else run into regional names for cuts that confused you at first?

Totally thought the same thing for years. This thread actually cleared it up for me.

Wait, so what made you realize they were the same thing? I'm curious what finally clicked, because it seems like a lot of us were confused.

Right? It's a super common mix-up. Happens to the best of us.
