My band saw blade snapped at 6am, nearly took out my fingers

Last Tuesday I was breaking down a pork shoulder for breakfast sausage at my shop in Akron and the blade let go at full speed. It whipped around and gouged a 2 inch line in the table right next to my left hand, close enough that I felt the draft of air. I've been running this same 112 inch blade for about 9 months, figured it was fine because it still cut straight. Turns out a hairline crack was hiding under the weld and I just never checked it with a magnifying glass. Anyone else do a full blade inspection on a set schedule, or am I the only one who got lucky?

My buddy Jake over in Cuyahoga Falls had the same thing happen with his deli slicer blade, not a band saw but same idea. He never checked it either until it threw a chunk of metal across the room and buried itself in the drywall next to his head. Now he's got a calendar reminder every month to give every blade a once over with a flashlight, and honestly that near miss scared me enough to start doing the same.
