Never knew beef fat could be worth that much till I checked the rendering prices last month
I was just poking around online after a big trimming day and saw that beef tallow is going for like $8 a pound in some specialty markets. Blew my mind because I usually just toss that stuff in the scrap bin or give it to a buddy for his dogs. I found this fact on a food industry trade site that breaks down byproduct pricing. Got me wondering if I should start saving my fat separately and selling it to a local soap maker or something. Has anyone else here messed around with selling tallow or suet on the side?

No way, $8 a pound?! That's insane. I've been throwing my fat trimmings in the compost bin like an idiot. I had a buddy who tried to give some to his chickens and they wouldn't even touch it. Now I'm sitting here wondering how much money I've literally thrown in the garbage over the last couple years.

Yeah tell me about it. I've been tossing bacon grease in the trash for years like a normal person. Could've paid for my kid's college with that stuff probably.
