Old timer told me to throw my boning knife away after 3 years
This guy Jerry who's been cutting meat since the 70s told me I was nuts for still using the same 6 inch Victorinox I bought back in 2019. He said the steel loses its temper after heavy use and you're just fighting a dull edge no matter how much you sharpen. I laughed it off until I borrowed his 6 month old knife and couldn't believe the difference. First cut through a pork shoulder felt like butter compared to my chipped up blade. Anyone else ever get told to retire a knife way earlier than you expected?

Did your friend ever buy a new one after that? My buddy Mike was the same way with his hunting knife, swore by a Buck he'd had since the late 90s. Then he took it out last deer season and the tip literally snapped off while he was trying to gut a doe, just crumbled like cheap plastic. He finally got a new one and said he felt stupid for not doing it years ago.

Crumbled like cheap plastic? I bet that Buck was a fake then, real ones last forever.
