Appreciation post: that time a snowstorm canceled my Kentucky trip
I was supposed to drive to Lexington last weekend for a flea market I'd been eyeing for months. Got 6 inches of snow instead and spent Saturday reorganizing my garage. Found a box of old concert tickets and a ratty denim jacket I'd forgotten about. Anyone else find something good when plans fall through?

...and that jacket probably smells like stale smoke and cheap beer from whatever bar floor it spent the night on. I had a similar thing happen last winter when my flight to Nashville got canceled because of ice on the runway. Ended up stuck at home and dug out an old box from my basement that had a cassette tape with a mix I made in high school. It was all scratched up but I found an old boom box at a thrift store the next week and actually played it. The tape had a song on it that I hadn't heard in maybe twenty years, and it took me right back to my friend's basement in 1998. Sometimes the universe has a way of making you slow down and find something you didn't know you were missing.

I saw a post on Reddit about how canceled plans sometimes lead to better finds, and this is a perfect example. Reorganizing the garage sounds like a win especially finding that denim jacket with old concert tickets. Snowstorms can be such a bummer but it is cool when you rediscover stuff you forgot you had. I bet that jacket has stories to tell from some wild shows. What flea market were you aiming for in Lexington?

@hannah_perry that high school mix tape find sounds exactly like something that would happen to me. I bet that song hit different when you heard it after all those years, right? Sometimes forcing yourself to slow down is the only way to actually appreciate what you already have. @amy974 the flea market was the one down near the old racetrack, the one they do twice a year with all the antique tools and vintage signs. Did you ever go to that one before it moved locations, or am I mixing it up with the other one out past Versailles?
