Lost my spot at a sold out show, ended up finding my favorite dive bar instead

Me and my buddy drove 40 minutes to catch a band at The Troubadour in LA last month. Got there early, grabbed food, then checked my phone and saw the venue bumped our tickets to a later show we couldn't make. We were pretty annoyed heading back to the car until my buddy mentioned a place his cousin bartends at called The Salty Hen, three blocks over. We went in for one drink, ended up staying four hours talking to this old regular who told us crazy stories about touring with a punk band in the 80s. He showed us photos on his phone of gigs in basements and VFW halls, stuff you'd never see now. I didn't even care that we missed the concert, that night was way more memorable. Anyone else have a canceled plan turn into something better than the original? What did you end up doing instead?
