My buddy canceled our camping trip last minute so I tried solo camping for the first time
He backed out Friday night because his kid got sick. I already had all the gear packed and a site reserved at Lake George so I just went alone. Honestly it was weird at first but I ended up liking it way more than I thought. No one to wait for on hikes, ate when I wanted, read my book by the fire until 11pm. Only bad part was setting up the tent by myself in the dark. Has anyone else done solo trips after a cancel and actually preferred it?

Yeah but let's be real here, it's not some life changing revelation. You went camping by yourself for one weekend. You didn't climb Everest without a rope. People act like eating a sandwich alone by a fire is some brave new frontier but it's just doing stuff without a buddy. I've been solo camping plenty of times because my crew bails all the time and yeah it's fine but it's not like I PREFER it. You miss having someone to split the work with and watch your back when you're stumbling around in the dark. Don't get me wrong it's fine for a quick trip but acting like it's better than a good group trip is a stretch. Give it a few more solo goes before you start writing a book about it.

I see what you're saying wright.richard, but I actually disagree about not preferring it. For me, that quiet night reading by the fire without anyone talking or needing anything was genuinely more peaceful than any group trip I've taken.
