My cousin canceled our fishing trip and it turned into a whole thing

We were supposed to go to Lake Tahoe last Saturday but he backed out because of rain. Instead we got beers at some dive bar and he dropped that he never actually liked fishing, just went along with it because our dad always made us. Anyone else find out a shared hobby was fake and it kind of messed with your head?

Question whether this is really worth getting bent out of shape over. People change and hobbies change with them, that's just part of life. Your cousin was honest with you finally, so take the dive bar victory and move on.

Had to laugh at myself reading this because I'm pretty sure my brother and I have been faking enjoying golf for like 15 years. We both hate it but we just keep going because neither one of us wants to be the one to admit it first. Maybe we're both just waiting for the other guy to say "hey this is boring and I'm bad at it." Anyway, sorry your cousin bailed but at least you got a dive bar out of it. That's pretty much a win in my book.
