My dishwasher died mid-cycle on a Tuesday night

I loaded it up after dinner, hit start, and then heard this loud grinding noise before everything just stopped. The display showed error code E24 which I later found out means the drain pump failed. Ended up hand washing everything at 10pm and ordering a replacement pump from a local parts shop in Austin for $35.

Honest question though, did you pull the pump apart to see what was actually in there? A broken spoon piece or a bit of glass can give the same scary noise and error code. Sometimes the fix is just clearing it out and drying the housing, not a whole new part.

Wait, did you actually dry out the pump area before checking if it was just something stuck in the impeller, or did you go straight to replacing the whole thing? I've had the E24 code pop up on my old Whirlpool a couple times and it turned out to be a chunk of plastic spoon that got wedged in there. $35 isn't bad for a new pump though, just curious if you bothered taking the old one apart to see what actually failed.

Hate to push back but I think you're overcomplicating this. Hand washing at 10pm sounds like a nightmare but honestly sometimes it's faster to just swap the part than to mess around diagnosing. I learned that the hard way. Taking apart a wet pump to dig out debris is a messy gamble and if a seal gets damaged you're back to square one. For $35 and knowing for sure the issue is fixed, I'd call that a win. Plus error codes usually mean the pump motor itself failed, not just a clog. Your mileage may vary though.
