My friend bailed on our hike up Mount Rainier last month and I went anyway

We had a full day planned, but she texted me at 6 AM saying she was too tired. I mean, I get it, but I drove all the way to the trailhead from Tacoma already. So I just did the first 3 miles of the Skyline Trail by myself. It was actually pretty quiet and nice, not gonna lie. Has anyone else had a plan fall through but still done the thing solo?

Read a thing about solo hikes being good for your head.

Honestly, that's the best way to handle it. Good on you for going anyway. But like, did you feel weird about it at first? I've done that before and the first 20 minutes I'm just annoyed and second-guessing if it's safe. Did you get over that pretty quick once you were on the trail?

Totally get that weird feeling at the start. Honestly, I started focusing on the sounds around me, like the wind and birds, and that snapped me out of the overthinking.

What if that weird feeling is actually a good thing? It keeps you alert to real risks you might miss if you were totally relaxed. Maybe we shouldn't try to get over it so fast.
