My friend bailed on our Saturday hike to Mount Rainier

I was already packed and ready to go when he texted about a work emergency. Instead of just staying home, I drove to a local park I'd never visited, called Discovery Park. I walked a small loop trail for about two hours, just listening to a podcast. It wasn't the mountain, but it was quiet and I saw a bald eagle. What do you guys do when you get stood up like that?

Ever notice how the best plans are the ones you don't make? You had this big thing set up, but the small, quiet backup plan gave you a bald eagle and some peace. It feels like life is constantly trying to trade a big, loud promise for a small, real moment. Getting stood up forces that trade, and sometimes you win.
